Update

Update

We’ve been quiet for the past month so we thought it might be a good time to provide an update.

On Monday we put a call out through one of our channels for independent films for something called Shenandoah Seasonal Film Series. The intention would be to see what would come in, and what type of films would be offered, so we can better plan our film events leading up to the Strasburg Film Festival, which is the second week of November.

The best way to express the response is, “WOW.”

In three days we’ve received 253 submissions for a total of a little over 100 hours of films to watch.

The categories include:

  • Features
  • Shorts
  • Live-Action
  • Animation
  • Narrative
  • Documentary

There are about 30 countries represented in where the films were submitted. In short, this is going to take some time to watch them all, but we will have a wide selection of films to choose from.

As for location, we’ve talked with a few different venues to show films:
– Pots Town Organics (Strasburg, VA)
– Clementine Vintage (Strasburg, VA)
– Ridge Runner Brewery(Strasburg, VA)
– Rouss Center for the Arts (New Market, VA)

We’re still trying to figure out good places in Mt. Jackson, Woodstock and Edinburg where films could be shown. Any ideas would be helpful.

We intend to find a selection of films to show at the town parks in Strasburg, Woodstock and New Market. However, we lack the funds to procure an outdoor screen to bring to these films to these areas, as well as speakers so people can hear these films.

Just to give you some background, the cost of an outdoor screen would run about $1,100. So this will take some time to raise unless we can find a business willing to sponsor this purchase with the guarantee of their advertisements right beside this screen.

We would also need speakers to show the films, but those would not be as costly.

So that’s it for now.

We just have to get through all of these films so those in Shenandoah County can enjoy the wonders of film.

One other note, once we’re able to obtain the costs of the equipment to show these films outdoors, then we can start raising funds for our 501 3 C organization’s true cause. Which, outside of bringing independent films to the county, is to raise funds and awareness for Theater Programs within the Shenandoah County School District.
