One of the most beloved singers in Rock n’ Roll history will be gracing the Strasburg Square stage on June 8th with the iconic Elvis film, Jailhouse Rock. Starting at sunset, which we believe will be around 8:45, we’ll start the film.

Our goal during our Seasonal Film Series is to bring you different programs that could be considered art or have an artistic value to them. We believe Jailhouse Rock fits this category.

Just looking at the song alone, “Jailhouse Rock” is a song that first became a hit for Elvis Presley. The movie got its name from this song. When Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote it, the film was titled Ghost of a Chance. The duo had the script and wrote the song for the scene where inmates put on a show in the prison.

After the song was recorded, it was clear that it was going to be a hit, so the movie was renamed Jailhouse Rock.

We’ll try to expand upon the influences of Jailhouse Rock the closer we get to the showing date.
